Hookey Hamilton

Hookey Hamilton is a photographer whose artistic journey is as unconventional as it is inspiring. Born into a family of creatives, Hookey felt an early yearning to express herself, yet struggled to find her voice through traditional art forms like dance, drawing, and music. This frustration often led her into playful mischief rather than meaningful creation.

Despite these challenges, Hookey's pursuit of knowledge led her to graduate from college in Virginia, after which she explored a myriad of professions—from radiobiological research to college teaching, antiquarian books, plant nurseries, and even serving as a corporate child care director to ensure her son could be by her side. Eventually, she ventured into healthcare administration, yet it was not until she picked up a camera that she discovered her true passion.

Photography quickly became her lifeline, infusing her life with purpose and creative expression. It was during this transformative period that she met Joel Bagnal, another artist navigating the confines of healthcare. Their connection ignited a profound sense of belonging within Hookey, who now revels in her vibrant life in a quirky, historic house nestled on the bayfront of St. Augustine. Surrounded by beauty, with her soulmate and son by her side, Hookey Hamilton embraces her identity as a photographer, channeling her experiences and love for life into every image she captures, hoping her work resonates with the joy she has found.
